The regional market in Lauterbach is history. The city has officially announced the end and explains the reasons for the move.
Lauterbach – On the Market that has taken place regularly on Berliner Platz from April to October on the first Saturday of every month since 2020direct marketers from Vogelsberg offered their regional products and handmade items. The Lauterbach city administration has now declared that the regional market will no longer take place due to a lack of acceptance.
It started in 2020 as part of the “Ab in die Mitte” campaign. Despite or perhaps because of the Corona pandemic at the time, the regional market on Berliner Platz was a success in its early days: demand for regional products increased and the market was a popular outdoor meeting place.
End for the Lauterbach regional market: too few visitors and dealers
“It was with a heavy heart that we had to make this decision after discussions and a long consideration process,” explains Mayor Rainer-Hans Vollmöller. “Unfortunately, we have recently noticed an ever-decreasing number of visitors to the regional market, which in turn – understandably – led to dissatisfaction among retailers. Furthermore, the available financial and human resources make it even more difficult to maintain operations.”
The city of Lauterbach regrets the decision and hopes for the understanding of the market suppliers and the citizens. “For six years we have been able to offer a great regional market with a wide range of products from the entire region and hope to find solutions in the future on how we can continue to integrate the regional offering into other markets.”
A long-term goal, for example, is to integrate the regional market into the weekly market and thus enhance it. All traders at the regional market can take part in the weekly market in Lauterbach and in the markets that take place throughout the year. Other options for integrating the regional market at other events in Lauterbach are still being examined.
