Fulda – The diocese of Fulda invites you to the traditional Boniface Festival on the cathedral square on Sunday, June 7th. With a solemn pontifical mass, Bishop Dr. Michael Gerber will open this year's Boniface pilgrimages at 9:30 a.m. Under the motto “In the heart one,” parishes from Fulda and the surrounding area make their way to the cathedral as a star pilgrimage, as the diocese announced.

The festival commemorates the patron saint of the diocese, Saint Boniface. In addition to the Fulda parishes, numerous walking and bicycle pilgrimages from the Fulda region and beyond are also expected. As was the case last year, all altar servers from the parishes are invited to take part in the big procession and celebrate the service at the altar.

The motto also builds a bridge to the Hessentag in Fulda: From June 12th, the Protestant and Catholic churches will be present together under the same motto. A week after the Feast of Boniface, both churches will celebrate an ecumenical service on the cathedral square on Sunday, June 14th at 10 a.m. – with Bishop Dr. Michael Gerber and Bishop Dr. Beate Hofmann.

The Pontifical Mass will be musically provided by, among others, the Youth Cathedral Choir, the A/B Choir, wind instruments and cathedral organist Max Deisenroth. The musical direction is taken over by cathedral music director Franz-Peter Huber. All song lyrics can be accessed on the day itself using a QR code that is available everywhere on Cathedral Square.

After the service, the diocese invites you to the courtyard of the cathedral deanery and the cathedral garden. There, visitors can expect music, grilled food and offers for young and old. Various associations and institutions present themselves on the Diocesan Mile, including the Youth and Young Adults Department, Caritas, the Social Service for Catholic Women and the Permanent Deacons in the Diocese of Fulda.

Caritas photo box and postcards for seniors – Diocese of Fulda celebrates with a colorful program

Caritas is represented with an interactive information stand in front of the new “Bread & Wine” shop café and is presenting its annual campaign “Together we can do something. Caritas connects generations”. Visitors can take part in hands-on activities, take a souvenir photo from the photo box and send postcards to seniors in nursing homes or to nursing staff.

Because of the preparations for the Hesse day There are restrictions around the cathedral square. The large stage and stands for the cathedral square concerts will already have been set up. The pilgrimage groups cannot therefore enter the cathedral through the main portal as usual. Instead, the processions are led to the side entrance and from there pass the tomb of St. Boniface.
