Barbecue accessories in a large practical testHot or not? These grill gadgets are the must-haves for summer 2026!
Now we're finally grilling again!
The days are getting longer, the sun is shining and the temperatures are rising: time to ring in the 2026 barbecue season. This year we want our fish to be even more tender, our sausages to be even juicier and fries to be even crispier – without spending too much money on unnecessary accessories! That's why our testers put four popular grill gadgets to the test for you: a salt stone, sausage cutting roller and griller, and a stainless steel smoke net for fries! You can find out which grill tools you really need and what you can safely do without in the video above!
Salt stone for grilling in the test: How good is the gadget for fish, meat, etc.?
The test begins with the salt stone: This must first be warmed up on the grill grate for 30 minutes. The salt stone should reach a temperature of up to 450 degrees. Thanks to the even heat distribution, steaks, fish and vegetables should cook particularly well. We decide on salmon for the practical test. This is placed on the salt stone with the skin side down.

Tester Julia, who is already impressed by the appearance of the salmon, dares to taste test a little later: “This is so delicate and so easy to just pull off“, says Julia, who doesn't normally like fish, surprisingly. “You actually have to try it,” is her conclusion.

Important: If you decide to use a salt stone, you should not oil it before using it. Over time, the oil can collect in the cracks in the stone and give off a rancid taste to the food being grilled.
Sausage cutting roller to prevent bursting in the test: Is the grill gadget worth it?
The next gadget in the RTL test is the sausage roller: This is intended to ensure that the sausages not only taste good, but also look good to bite. To do this, our testers let the cutting roller slide over the sausage skin. The sausages are given x-shaped incisions, thanks to which the water that escapes can evaporate when heated. This is to prevent the sausages from bursting unsightly. Does this also work in our test?

“They burst open exactly where they were scored, i.e. where they should burst open, and slowly turn brown and look appetizing“, is the first impression of our testers. But the taste test is followed by disillusionment: Since there is no difference to the non-scored sausages, The price of around 20 euros doesn't seem particularly justifiedt. Finally, bratwursts can also be cut with a normal knife!
