“Let's Dance” star Joel Mattli about his personal ritual

Three words. Every morning. That's all Joel Mattli needs to collect himself before the next XXL challenge. Because on Friday there are two completely different dances waiting for him. A slow fox with Malika, a paso doble with Patricija. Between calm, romance and full attack, a little ritual keeps him on track.

Let's Dance

Specifically: “I write down three words every morning that will accompany me throughout the day,” says the 32-year-old in an interview with RTL.de. Sometimes it says “joy”, sometimes “stamina”, sometimes simply “fight”. Words like victory or winning consciously do not appear in his mind. He wants to keep focus, clear his head and not give room to negative thoughts.

He needs a clear head, especially this week and in preparation for the show, in which there are two dances. There isn't much sleep left. This little morning ritual, which grounds him, is all the more important as the week gets faster and faster.

“Let's Dance” star Joel Mattli announces Slowfox with Malika

But it's not just his ritual that carries him through this time – his dance partner Malika too! Joel describes her as an “extremely sensitive person” and explains that the two harmonized on the same level from the start. For him, it’s exactly “a bit of that magic” that resonates with the audience. After the rumba, this closeness could no longer be overlooked. The 32-year-old speaks openly about how he was “almost shaking” at the end because he had let go so much.

Patricija brings out the hard Joel side

The complete contrast awaits in the Paso Doble with Patricija. He's been hoping for this dance for a long time because it's where he can finally show his tough side. The fact that it is not Malika, but Patricija, who is working on this number with him makes it even more special for him. At the same time, he praises how motivated she is and how uncompromisingly both professionals approached the choreos this week.

He therefore announces “two complete Joels” for the eighth show. One that allows feeling in Slowfox. And one who dances in the Paso to attack.

Let's see if he doesn't have to tremble this time…
