The Brothers Grimm Festival starts the season with record advance sales. The innovations are a new stage design and a shuttle service.

Hanau – The Brothers Grimm Festival Hanau started their new season with great public attention. More than 54,000 tickets have already been sold – more than ever before at this point. This is where the festival comes in seamlessly to the record year 2025 and underline their importance far beyond the region.

At the opening press conference and the subsequent free event “Insight of the rehearsal stage” in the Kulturforum, numerous visitors were able to get a first foretaste of the coming season in the Hanau Amphitheater. The ensemble presented excerpts from this year's four productions in a casual rehearsal atmosphere: the musical “Little Table, Cover Yourself!”, “Snow White,” “The Emperor's New Clothes” and “Amadeus.” The audience responded with enthusiastic applause.

“The impressive advance sales figures show once again how firmly anchored the Brothers Grimm Festival is in Hanau’s cultural life,” said Mayor Claus Kaminsky (SPD). “They are a flagship of our city and inspire a growing audience every year.” Director Frank-Lorenz Engel added: “This enormous response is confirmation and motivation for us at the same time. We not only want to offer our audience high-quality productions, but also create special experiences – emotional, approachable and accessible to all generations.”

A special eye-catcher of the season is the new stage design by Tilmann von Blomberg, who is once again responsible for the design in the amphitheater after his successful debut last year. After the imaginative book world with a folding book and Rapunzel tower last year, he is now taking a completely new direction. The stage design presents itself in a round, open shape and thus creates a new spatial dynamic.

Blomberg was inspired by the baroque fairytale fountain in the Volkspark Friedrichshain in Berlin, near which he lives. The motif takes up the idea of telling fairy tales as a shared experience: characters, scenes and stories unfold in a circle and invite the audience to become part of this lively fairy tale world. The costume department also presented the first designs for the current season, ranging from detailed fairytale characters to surprisingly modern interpretations of classic roles.

The festival is significantly expanding its offerings this season. For the first time, extensive educational folders are available that were specifically designed for use in schools and enable well-founded preparation and follow-up of the productions. Also new is the “BUWOG Unicorn Express” – a dedicated shuttle service that connects central stops in Hanau city center such as the main train station, Freiheitsplatz and Marktplatz with the amphitheater. The bus runs on performance days before the start and after the end of the evening performances. Since the festival ticket already includes free use of local public transport in the entire RMV area, it is particularly easy to use.

Free tickets will also be raffled off on site, and visitors will receive a 15 percent discount on all productions in the amphitheater exclusively on Fairy Tale Day.
