The state is supporting the Hessentag cities of Fulda and Bad Vilbel with interest-free loans from the Hessian Investment Fund totaling 7.8 million euros for infrastructure projects.

Fulda – Fulda receives this year’s award Hesse day 2.8 million euros for the renovation and further development of the Cityhaus and the former Kerber department store. The The area will be used as a meeting point for various institutions during the state festival and then provide permanent space for educational and meeting opportunities, including the adult education center.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the aim is to strengthen the city center as a cultural and adventure space and to create new, long-term usable areas in the heart of the city. Fulda's mayor Dr. Heiko Wingenfeld (CDU) explained: “With the Hessentag funding from the state, new spaces for education and encounters can be created in the heart of the city center. This is another building block in making the city center attractive as a cultural and adventure space. This, Karlchen vom Dach and the offerings of the Fulda Children's Academy in the former Kerber area are examples of such new accents in urban development.”

For Bad Vilbel, which has already organized Hessentag 2025, two projects will be subsequently funded. Two million euros will flow into the creation of Niddapark as a city park, and the state will provide another three million euros for the renovation of the tithe barn and the festival grounds. According to the Ministry of Finance, both investments strengthen the urban infrastructure and create sustainable lounges and event spaces.

Finance Minister Alexander Lorz (CDU) emphasized the long-term effects of the funding. “The Hessentag is much more than a state festival, it is a driver for sustainable investments in our cities. With the interest-free loans from the Hessian Investment Fund, we support targeted projects that are intended to benefit citizens in the long term. Bad Vilbel and Fulda impressively show how local development and major cultural events can work together,” explained Lorz.

Funding for Fulda and Bad Vilbel

With regard to the approved funds, the minister added: “With the funding commitments for Bad Vilbel and Fulda, we are investing in livable urban spaces, modern meeting places and sustainable usage concepts beyond the Hessentag. It is precisely the combination of short-term use and long-term perspective that makes these projects particularly valuable. Hesse thus remains a reliable partner for its municipalities.”

The Hessian Investment Fund is a special state fund that supports municipalities with important investments. According to the Ministry of Finance, projects related to the Hessentag can also be funded; Loans of up to five million euros are possible for each Hessentag city. With the interest-free loans now promised, Bad Vilbel and Fulda will benefit from sustainable investments in infrastructure and urban development beyond the duration of the ten-day state festivals.
