Großenlüder is tackling dilapidated streets: The municipality wants to consider a total of 13 damaged streets in its planning in 2026 and 2027.

Großenlüder – In order to check the condition of the streets in Großenlüder and to have an objective basis for future decisions, the municipal board commissioned an independent office to carry out a detailed survey of the structural condition of the municipal roads last year. A list of priorities has been drawn up and will now be worked through gradually.

Großenlüder is renovating 13 dilapidated streets in the community

“An inspection was carried out. Afterwards, all streets were classified into condition classes and graded,” reported Großenlüder's mayor Florian Fritzsch (independent) during the most recent meeting of the municipal council. The data obtained was then compared with reports on the condition of the water and sewer pipes. The combination of these three data sources is now the basis for the conservation concept, which is intended to serve as a decision-making aid for the municipality's medium-term financial planning.

The condition classes of the roads range from 1 (very good) to 8 (very bad). According to the administration, the condition of the roads in the municipality corresponds to condition class 4 on average. Almost a fifth of the traffic areas correspond to classes 6 to 8 and, according to the municipality's estimates, will pass into a critical condition in the coming years. As Fritzsch noted, the most common causes of road damage are cracks and settlement.

The local council finally approved the project unanimously. With the resolution passed, the municipality wants to take a total of 13 of the damaged streets in Großenlüder, Oberbimbach, Müs and Uffhausen into account in planning in 2026 and 2027. In addition, there are initially four development measures that are also to be structurally completed in the coming years, starting in 2027 with the Zum Sesselsgraben road in Uffhausen.

Road construction marathon: Community faces major challenge

Like Fritzsch Fulda newspaper explains, the scope and costs of the respective measures vary greatly, “so that when which measure will be implemented must be assessed individually, taking into account the budgetary situation as well as the personnel capacities in the municipal administration.”

However, Fritzsch already emphasizes: “For all measures, discussions and exchanges with the residents of the streets are sought several times in advance. In the respective discussions, they are informed about the plans, the cost volume and the road contributions due for the respective measure on the basis of the municipal road contribution statutes.”

For Fritzsch, the step is “not only the conclusion of the lengthy disputes over our roads over the last few years, but also the start of a complex, costly and challenging issue.” He emphasizes that the community is facing a marathon that will take several years.

But it's not just at the local level that planning and construction takes place: also Hessen Mobil has announced extensive renovation work in the Fulda district for 2026.
