The Schlitz Castle Museum opens after the winter break. There are fascinating exhibits from 100 years of history to discover.
Schlitz – March 21, 1926 is a historic date. The opening of the first Schlitz local history museum was celebrated this Sunday in the castle town of Schlitz. The museum is 100 years old – and not a bit old. The Schlitzer Castle Museum, which recently received 2,000 euros from proceeds from the Döring special exhibitionhas a moving story.
A century after its opening, today's castle museum in the Vorderburg invites citizens and tourists to get an idea of its rich collection and to marvel at historical exhibits from the urban, rural and countial life of the city and the Schlitzerland.
100 Years of Castle Museum: Treasure of History opens in Schlitz
The inauguration of the new museum took place 100 years ago with a ceremony in the rooms of the Hinterburg, then called Schlitzer Heimatmuseum. The initiative to found the museum came from Pastor Knodt with the participation of the Sommer and Altstadt teachers.
A large audience took part in the ceremony: the count's family, the mayor and the city council, representatives of the district, delegations from the clubs, and the teaching staff from the two Schlitz schools. In his welcoming speech, Pastor Knodt said: “We can look at our newly built local museum today with pride that there is no landscape or town that has such a unique character as Schlitz and Schlitzerland.”

And further: “Although the loyalty and tenacity of the Hessians are known, the Schlitzerlanders have held on to the customs and customs of their fathers with particular love and loyalty. But no care of the homeland without understanding is an old pedagogical requirement. This is where the task of the local history museum comes in. It should be a living monument to the rich local history. It should educate our young people in particular to be in awe of what has become historical.”
A lot has happened in the museum's 100-year history. The museum had to move several times. Since its expansion in 2003, it has operated as the castle museum of the city of Schlitz. The exhibition in the spacious rooms in the Vorderburg presents many pieces from the rich history of the city and the Schlitzerland, from the prehistoric find of the print of a Sclerothorax hypselonotus from Mercury to household appliances from more recent times.
Museum opens after winter break on April 4th
Valuable furniture, pictures of ancestors and the large tapestry are donations from the Count's House. The medieval vestments from the Protestant church are unique. Looms, traditional costumes, furniture and everyday objects bear witness to the everyday life of our ancestors, including objects that hardly anyone today knows or knows how to use.
Many fellow citizens have contributed to the museum's inventory through their donations. Over the years up until today, the team of museum employees has been responsible for the presentation and preservation of the museum pieces with great commitment. This means that Pastor Knodt's demands have been followed for 100 years.
An interesting special exhibition will also be presented in this anniversary year. Further activities are being planned throughout the year. All citizens are invited to be curious about the old and the past, which can tell a lot. After the winter break, the museum will reopen its doors on Saturday, April 4th. It can be visited from Friday to Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (rsb)
